We are looking for a Cultural Resources Project Manager with experience in
historic and/or prehistoric archaeology. The person selected will assist to
plan and execute projects in Central and South Texas, and beyond. The
successful applicant will have previously prepared proposals for various
types of clients in the private and public sectors. She or he will have a
good understanding of Texas Antiquities Code, National Historic
Preservation Act and National Environmental Policy Act compliance. The
applicant should be able to work independently for 40 or more hours per
week, sometimes on an unpredictable schedule. This is a regular, full-time
position. The position is based in the Alamo City - San Antonio, Texas -
and the applicant should be located in, or be willing to relocate to, that

The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic central Texas
cultural and environmental resources planning team that enjoys excellent
relationships with a wide range of local, regional, and state agencies, as
well as private and nonprofit clients. Our San Antonio office offers a
unique work environment in a great city.

Your primary responsibilities will include working with SWCA staff and
clients to develop proposals and to conduct and manage cultural resources
survey and monitoring projects within the San Antonio region. Other
activities can include: National Register evaluative testing; site
significance evaluations in relation to local, state and federal
guidelines; developing mitigation startegies to avoid, or correct, adverse
effects and impacts to historic properties; data recovery studies; and
preparing / reviewing reports for regulatory compliance within the Central
Texas, South Texas and the Texas-Gulf Coast region.

Additional related responsibilities will be to: schedule and oversee data
collection and field studies; prepare deliverables related to environmental
and cultural resource permitting; perform due diligence and constraints
analyses; develop mitigation plans; and monitor project budgets. SWCA
encourages staff and provides time to develop presentations for local,
regional, and national conferences and forums.

As a core member of the San Antonio Cultural Resources Program, the
successful applicant would also take a lead and collaborative role in
pursuing new project opportunities and supervising and mentoring current

- Master's Degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field
(meeting the Secretary of the Interior's standards, 36 CFR, Part 61)
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Cultural Resource Management

Preferred experience includes:

- Working in San Antonio and its environs;
- Working on a variety of project types, sizes and time periods;
- Working on project aspects from pre-field tasks through final report
- Working in multiple regions of Texas and Gulf Coast;
- Working with a variety of regulatory agencies;
- Familiarity with the history and prehistory of Central Texas and other
regions within the state and the Gulf Coast;
- Demonstrated ability to hold and complete a Texas Antiquities Permit
as a Principal Investigator;
- Advanced skills and knowledge in one or more specialty areas within
archaeology (prehistoric or historic) required;
- Primary report authorship in a CRM context and experience providing
quality control review of field documents, site forms and reports required.
