Archaeological Laboratory Technician - Lithic Specialist

SEARCH has an immediate opening for an Archaeological Laboratory Technician specializing in lithic technology to support multiple projects, including projects for Federal and State government agencies.  Analysis will be from archaeological sites located in Florida, throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, and worldwide.

Qualified candidates should possess:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or a related field
• Minimum two years laboratory experience in the identification of prehistoric lithic debitage and tools
• Knowledge of all stages of lithic analysis
• Demonstrated ability to identify and type lithic tools from the Southeastern US
• Prior archaeology fieldwork experience
• Completion of an archaeological field school
• Superior technical writing ability
• Experience preparing collections to Federal curation standards
• The ability to work well in a team environment, under the direction of a Laboratory Director and/or Laboratory Supervisor

• Mid-western, and Mid-Atlantic experience, a plus
• Knowledge of prehistoric pottery of the Southeastern US, a plus

The position will be based in SEARCH’s office in Gainesville, Florida, working primarily inside the lab.  Occasional fieldwork may be requested and scheduled of the individual hired for this position.

The chosen candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test and a criminal background check, including DMV.  Applicants need to be eligible to be employed in the United States.  SEARCH offers a competitive total compensation package with strong health & wellness and retirement plans.  Pay will be commensurate with education and experience.
