The Louisiana Division of Archaeology is seeking applicants for an Archaeologist II Site File Manager position in our Baton Rouge, Louisiana, office. The position description and required skills and knowledge are outlined below. This is a full-time civil service position with health insurance; vacation and sick leave; and retirement. Salary range is $31,900 to $63,600 with specific salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
M.A. in anthropology or closely related field is required. Applicants must meet the Secretary of Interior’s qualifications (http://www.nps.gov/history/local-law/arch_stnds_9.htm ). Field experience in archaeology is desirable, as is experience with the Section 106 process. Please provide a resume and cover letter. These are not required for the state application but are helpful additional documents. In addition, please provide a detailed statement outlining your GIS experience and capabilities, particularly with ESRI ArcView 10.4.
The primary responsibilities of this position are:
· Managing and maintaining the records associated with the site files;
· Assigning site numbers, reviewing and editing site forms, and providing technical comments in a timely manner;
· Maintaining the site file database and the Division of Archaeology's Geographical Information System (GIS); and
· Continue the processing of older problematic site forms to improve the Division of Archaeology's GIS system, and the Louisiana Culture Resources Map.
· Review archaeological reports to ensure compliance with the Division of Archaeology’s standards and assess recommendations of site eligibility.
Required skills and abilities:
· Familiarity with archaeological field methods and site forms;
· Experience with working with ESRI ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, web mapping, and web site/service deployment;
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Access, and Word; and
· Ability to communicate clearly and accurately via phone, email, letter, and in person about our office’s site form standards.
Desired skills and abilities:
· Archaeological field experience;
· Experience with completing or processing site forms;
· Experience with working with and programing ESRI Server; and
· Knowledge of the Section 106 process.
