Open Position �⒠� Senior Archaeologist, Tarboro, North Carolina
Commonwealth Heritage Group, Inc. (formerly Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc., dba Coastal Carolina Research) desires to fill the position of Senior Archaeologist for our Tarboro office. Tarboro, a historic town with a significant residential historic district and town common dating from 1760, is located near the I-95 corridor. It has a one-hour interstate connection to Raleigh and lies near the cities of Greenville and Rocky Mount. The position requires a Ph.D. or M.A./M.S. in anthropology/archaeology with RPA registration, an analytical specialization in precontact or historical archaeology of the Southeastern or Mid-Atlantic regions, and at least five years of cultural resources management experience at a supervisory level including field direction, site analysis and evaluation, report preparation, and quality assurance. The position includes conducting or managing Phase I archaeological surveys, Phase II evaluations, and Phase III data recovery projects as Archaeologist and/or Principal Investigator under the general direction of the Regional Director. Flexibility with respect to travel is a requirement of the position and may involve short-term assignments to complete small projects and conduct project inspections or multi-week assignments for more complex projects. The position also entails analysis of results, archival research, evaluation of sites including development of research designs for significant resources, preparation of detailed reports meeting all applicable company and agency standards and guidelines, and tracking/reporting of progress with adherence to the scope of work. Ability to work with databases, Trimble GPS units, and GIS is important.
A solid understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and National Register of Historic Places evaluation of sites is essential for this position. Of importance is the ability to write effective narratives for historic contexts and in support of National Register eligibility recommendations as well as proposal research designs. The Senior Archaeologist also contributes to marketing and project development through assistance with proposals and active participation in professional circles.
