The Northern California Indian Development Council (NCIDC - 501c3 non-profit) is helping the Bureau of Land Management (Ukiah Field Office) restore public lands within the footprint of the 2015 Rocky and Jerusalem fires.  Between late-July and mid-September, roughly 64,000 acres of BLM lands within the Cache Creek Wilderness and Knoxville Recreation Area burned.  The NCIDC will be putting unemployed individuals to work rehabilitating burned lands.

The NCIDC / BLM is in need of two (2) archaeologists / cultural resource practitioners (familiar with Northern California archaeology) to interface with the BLM, UKFO Archaeologist and NCIDC work-crews.  Primary duties will include helping crews to avoid sensitive areas and to record / update resource / site forms.  The job will include working in rough terrain and possible inclement weather.  The work week will be 40 hours.  No housing is provided.

The NCIDC requires that prospective applicants be

  • a California Resident

  • have been unemployed for at least 15 -1/2 weeks (since October 1st 2015),
  • registered for the Selective Service System,
  • have three (3) forms of identification.

The job will probably begin in mid-late February, last 6 to 8 months, pays $20 / hour and includes health benefits.

Applicants should have at least an undergraduate degree in Anthropology / related field, have spent time working in-the-field, can conduct intensive pedestrian surveys, effectively communicate with others including asserting themselves when necessary, know how to complete DPR-523 site forms, are organized, can read maps, and use a GPS unit.
