VHB’s growing Atlantaoffice is seeking an Archaeological Field Technician to support our team forproject work based in Atlanta, GA for the summer of 2017. The full-time, temporary position willprimarily consist of archaeological survey, including pedestrian survey, shoveltesting, and test unit excavation in support of transportation projects. In addition, the successful candidate wouldbe expected to provide support to our entire cultural resource team withvarious activities, such as artifact processing, analysis, and curationprep. Expenses will be reimbursed forhotel room accommodations and meals for any fieldwork outside of the Atlanta,Georgia metro area. No per diem will beprovided for fieldwork. Part-time on-callemployment may be extended beyond the summer as opportunities arise. Responsibilities: · Conduct archaeological fieldwork, includingpedestrian survey, shovel testing, and test unit excavation · Assist with mapping responsibilities in thefield, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units · Work closely with project team under the supervisionof VHB archaeologists and cultural resource professionals Skills andQualifications: · Bachelor's Degree in anthropology, archaeology,or a closely related field or six (6) months field experience with a range offield methodologies, including survey, testing, and excavation, and monitoring · Participation in an accredited field school orequivalent experience · Experience working as a field archaeologist inthe Southeast United States · Experience with the application of standardarchaeological field and laboratory techniques · Knowledge of TerraSync is a plus · Ability to travel to a location, walk/hike andconduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 poundsis required · Excellent verbal, written and interpersonalcommunication skills · Team oriented with strong capability to workindependently · Motivated to lead and mentor others Candidates are expectedto be located within the Atlanta area or provide their own accommodation withinthe Atlanta area for the duration of the summer
