Transcon Environmental is a growing Environmental Planning firm with offices in Arizona, California and Utah. We currently have a full-time position available for a mid to upper level Archaeologist in our Draper, Utah office to join our highly successful team of Environmental Planners, Biologists and Archaeologists. Compensation for this position will be determined based on a combination of education level, years of experience and the number of qualifications listed below that the applicant is proficient in. This position will be an hourly, non-exempt position with overtime pay when available and full benefits.
Duties:
The Archaeologist in this position will serve as the Cultural Resource Program Lead in Transcon�⒠�s Great Basin Region. The Cultural Resource Lead will be responsible for building a successful Cultural Resource Program, including the strategic design of archaeological studies for both large and small projects. Other responsibilities will include: preparing archaeological site documentation including making National Register eligibility recommendations; writing reports; providing peer review and quality control review of reports; serving in the role as field supervisor or crew chief for a variety of surveys, testing, and monitoring projects; providing leadership and oversight to staff archaeologists; participating in client relations and building marketing opportunities; training of new staff; and utilizing ArcGIS software to analyze data and prepare maps for site forms and reports. The successful candidate will report to the Great Basin Regional Manager and will work collaboratively with archaeological leads in Arizona and California. This position will be office and field based and applicants should expect long periods spent away from the Draper, UT office conducting field work. This position will involve coordinating directly with various agencies, tribes and clients. The position may expand to include contributing to National Environmental Policy Act compliance documents.
The selected applicant will conduct archaeological fieldwork in a variety of terrains, landscapes, and elevations. The ability to hike in rough terrain and on steep slopes while carrying up to 25 pounds of field gear is a requirement. Field work could potentially include exposure to rain, snow, cold, heat, dust, insects, wind, and lightning and work days that could be in excess of 10 hours per day and for more than 5 days consecutively. The position will require a comfort level and aptitude for off-road driving or driving in rough conditions. A clean driving record for the previous 5 years is required. If you are denied insurance because of a traffic incident, it may result in the termination of your employment. This position will also be contingent on pre-employment and annual drug and alcohol testing as outlined in our policies and procedures which will be provided at the time of hire.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be able to show that they have a current archaeological permit, or have been permitted in the recent past with the state of Utah or the Utah Bureau of Land Management statewide, or the ability to become permitted in a reasonable timeframe. Applicants should possess either a Bachelor�⒠�s or Graduate degree in Anthropology or Archaeology with two years of archaeological work experience. Applicants should be able to show a writing portfolio that would include a Class I background research report, Testing / Monitoring Plan and Results reports, Class III survey report and a Cultural Resource section from an EIS or EA document (for sensitivity and security purposes do not include your writing portfolio with your application but, bring the materials with you to your interview if chosen).
