TITLE

Intern - Curation Facility Technician-Temporary

DESCRIPTION
  • Assist with overall organization of Fort Irwin’s Curation Facility, including large amounts of data entry into the Curation Database.

  • Inventory Ceramics bags, bone boxes, and other containers with corresponding catalogs, noting missing catalogs, missing artifacts, and other errors in the data.

  • Assist Redhorse team with identifying missing or damaged artifact bags and bag tags.

  • Create artifact bag tags and assist with re-bagging artifacts.

  • Track new artifact boxes created during the curation inventory process, compare to existing empty spaces in racks, and help identify appropriate locations for incorporation into the existing collections.

  • Research FAR in collections (catalog, physical racks), process, and prepare
    for deaccession.

  • Assist Redhorse team with projecting packing material needs based on the
    volume and type of artifacts to be repatriated to their respective
    collections.

  • Identify smaller collections from the Curation Database and racks, compare to existing empty spaces in racks, and help consolidate collections within the curation collections organizational framework.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements:

  • Interest in Mojave Desert archaeology.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with a curation facility, museum, or similar position involving inventorying, cataloguing, organization, and data entry.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, quick learner, and ability to follow directions.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Must have ability to commute to Fort Irwin National Training Center.
  • Must pass basic background check to gain access to a military installation.
  • Ability to take initiative.

Preferred experience:

•   Academic coursework in Mojave Desert archaeology or other archaeological experience.

•   Experience with large amounts of data entry.
