Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc., (CRA) is actively seeking supervisory-level archaeologists and architectural historians in all 50 states. CRA can be called upon with little or no notice to support FEMA activities anywhere in the country. We are looking for professionals that can be deployed in support of FEMA for Section 106 compliance for periods of performance that may range from one week to a year or even longer. Unlike the majority of our work where we can staff up as necessary to meet our client’s needs, this contract is far different. We hope to compile a list of people by state who can be vetted in advance and then used to service the contract at a moment’s notice.
Candidates must demonstrate the technical expertise required to identify historic properties, evaluate the effects of projects on historic properties, and have experience coordinating and consulting with State Historic Preservation Officers. Additionally, candidates must be detail oriented, well-organized, an excellent verbal and written communicators, and technologically proficient with experience in working with databases. Specific duties may include working with staff to oversee projects, attending kickoff meetings, conducting fieldwork, managing fieldwork crews, conducting analyses, interpreting analytical data, preparing status reports, and writing technical reports.
The qualified archaeological candidates must
* have a graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a related field;
* meet the Secretary of the Interior Standards (36 CFR 61) in archaeology;
* must demonstrate proficiency with complex monitoring, survey, and excavation logistics;
* be a Registered Professional Archaeologist, or will be eligible for registration;
* must be badged, or badgeable; and
* have at least five (5) years of relevant supervisory experience.
The qualified architectural historian candidates must
* possess a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, or related field;
* meet the Secretary of the Interior Standards (36 CFR 61) in architectural history;
* must demonstrate proficiency with architectural resource surveys, National Register of Historic Places nominations, HABS/HAER documentation, design guidelines, historic structure reports, and preservation planning;
* must be badged, or badgeable; and
* have at least five (5) years of relevant supervisory experience.
FEMA project experience a plus, and familiarity with emergent requests and rapid mobilization preferred. Experience navigating and collecting geospatial data using handheld GPS units is expected. Working knowledge of GIS applications, experience using a transit/total station, geophysical survey equipment, and operating 4-wheel drive vehicles in rough terrain is preferable.
The candidates should expect stays away from their home and travel for the duration of fieldwork. Work may be in remote, rural, rugged, and/or disaster settings with limited resources and are expected to be prepared for these variable fieldwork conditions. It is imperative that candidates be able to work 8 to 10 hour days (or longer if necessary) in a variety of conditions. Candidates should anticipate working up to 50 hours per week. Stooping, bending and lifting are essential functions of these positions.
